Can hypnotherapy help anxiety?

2 minute read.

Can hypnotherapy help anxiety? It certainly did for me.

Rewind back a few years…I sat in the car on a hill in sheer panic, tears streaming down my face worrying about how I was going to move without rolling into the car in front of me which was parked in close proximity. When I started the engine and let go of the handbrake the car would roll forward.

It wasn’t that I didn’t know how to drive, what happened is anxiety had consumed me and all I could see was that I was stuck. I couldn’t think, move or do anything. My heart was pounding and I felt sick. It didn’t come out of nowhere, I was in a constant state of stress and anxiety. It was just something to tip me over the edge in that moment and as a result, lead me to a full blown panic attack.

Anxiety can manifest in many different ways and when our worries consume our mind it can really impact our daily life.

Understanding Anxiety

So what is happening? Why does anxiety inhibit our ability to do things, go places and make decisions? Why does anxiety make us avoid people, focus on the negative, worry about the future and check things?

Anxiety is created by negative thinking and the more we feed it, the more anxiety it creates. When we attach emotion to our thoughts it creates a physical response in the body. We’ll avoid places and people and check things because our primitive mind thinks if we do or don’t do something we won’t be ensuring our survival.

The issue we have is our primitive mind is reacting to events in modern day life that are not actually life threatening, but feel like they are. The intellectual part of our brain is clouded of rational judgement and we’re left bubbling on the edge of fear waiting for the next thing to trigger us.

So can hypnotherapy help anxiety?

Hypnotherapy can help you reframe negative thoughts and change unhelpful behaviour patterns.  It allows the space for you to find solutions in your every day life which helps you move forward. As a result, you’re able to see things differently and find evidence of what is working well to improve your mental health and well being.

In conclusion, hypnotherapy can be a game changing tool that will draw on your own inner strengths and resources. You can make changes resulting in you feeling better without anxiety controlling your life.

If you feel anxiety is impacting your daily life and you would like help, please do get in touch. I offer a free, friendly phone chat to discuss your circumstances and answer any questions you may have. I do appreciate anxiety can make it hard to take that first step and I’d be happy to chat via text or email initially to help put you at ease.
